Geography read from a textbook and geography walked through your boots are different subjects. Trips and camps at St. Peter’s exist for that difference: applying classroom learning in real places, meeting new environments, and — for boarders especially — practising the independence and teamwork that group travel demands. The recent Eco Camp for Classes IX–XI is a good example: environmental learning, leadership and mud, in roughly equal measure.
Types of experience
| Experience | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Local field visits | Connect subjects with local history, geography, environment, community and enterprise. |
| Nature walks and eco activities | Observation, physical activity, environmental awareness — the hill campus as classroom. |
| Educational camps | Extended project, leadership, outdoor or subject-based learning — including the Eco Camp. |
| Domestic study tours | Different regions, institutions, cultures and sites of real educational interest. |
| International travel | Cross-cultural and specialist learning where a current programme is approved. |
| Recreational outings | Age-appropriate leisure and supervised social experience — fun is also a purpose. |
Every excursion runs on the same non-negotiables: proper planning, appropriate supervision, informed parental consent and clear safety procedures. Adventure is the point; recklessness is not.
